Getting to Know You
Seth & I go way back to 1988, where we met when we were in high school. Seth was also one of my college roommates at Penn State. Back in January 2004 Seth asked me if I would be willing to help out building a reservation system for one of our clients, which turned into developing a few ecommerce solutions for some more clients, then I started working on or developing just about every site that is a client of ours. Finally in September 2005 I became a fulltime Fulgen employee and haven't looked back since. The excitement and focus on quality that Fulgen has is amazing, unlike any other company I have worked for previously.
Since the title of this blog is 'Getting to Know You', I should tell a little bit about myself. I grew up in Levittown, PA, which is about 40 minutes north of Philadelphia. I studied at Penn State University where I also ran for their Cross-Country and Track & Field program (Our head coach, Harry R. Groves, just retired 2 weeks ago after 38 years of coaching at Penn State). I met my wife while working at a super market at PSU, proof that grocery stores are still feasible places to pick up the ladies. After college my wife & I moved to Boston and lived and worked there for 5 years. In October 2003 we got tired of living in the North East and decided to move to a place where the snowboarding is plentiful and every family has at least 2 dogs. That place would be Colorado. We have lived here for almost 3 years with our energetic dogs Bronco & Izzy and wonder why we didn't move to Colorado sooner. Since moving to Colorado I have decided to dust off the running shoes after a few years hiatus and have started racing again, just last week I raced in the Bolder Boulder 10K. Keep an eye out for a Fulgen Technology racing team of 1 in the near future! I'll keep you posted.
So enough about me, lets get into what I do for Fulgen Technology. This past winter we did 3 site overhauls. The most recent being the current site you are looking at, in January of this year Parapublishing.com was launched, and finally Baileyworks.com went live in February. Most of what I did for these sites you won't notice if I did my job well. I focus exclusively on the development side of the websites which means I write the code that gets your shopping cart to work and to communicate to your Payment Provider. I create the administration areas that allow you to manage your catalog or your online orders. All the Javascript, Cold Fusion, .NET, AJAX, SQL Server dirty work goes through me. Think of me as your website mechanic who keeps things running smoothly.
Some cool new web based applications are also in the pipeline for you all to see soon. We're pretty close to debuting our online marketing tool that allows you to setup mass mailers to email your clients the latest news and offers from your website. I've been working on this application for a while now and am excited to get it out into your hands. We have a few other applications coming out this year that will help you reach out to your clients and make their online experience at your website more exciting. Come back soon to hear more about them!
Alright, I have to head back to website workshop with the other elves and get back to work. I hope you enjoyed the getting to know me portion of the Blog!
